Don't hate me, but the constitution promises our 2nd amendment but it is only in the Bill of Rights and our Constitution that we have the right to carry. God never promised that. That said, Jesus told His disciples to carry one weapon of the kind that the Roman armies did. That is truly the closest to God given rights.
We trained once thus far at Front Sight in Nevada, which taught us a lot! A 6 foot man can run 20 feet in 3 seconds. Meaning, the person who carries must be able to pull, aim, shoot in 2.8 seconds. What happens when there is no round in the chamber? How much time does it take to pull, rack the slide, aim, and shoot? Add another second to 2.8 and the shooter will be already done. With dry practice (that is with an empty magazine (and chamber), one can practice every day and decrease that time. I carry a round in the chamber always. I reduced my time with practice to 1.8 seconds (this gives someone that one second to rack the slide).
I also learned how to cheat the draw. With any potential threat (whether they look armed or not) my hand is on the gun after loosing it from the holster just enough. Maybe a 1/4 inch. My pull/aim/shoot has dropped. Under a second. People really need to train. And train.
