Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines… God led the people around by the way of the wilderness. Exodus 13:17-18, NKJV
Sometimes we don’t understand why God leads us on the longer, more difficult path in life, when the short cut and one of least resistance appears to be much more logical! The children of Israel must have questioned this very thing. At times like this, we need to trust the integrity of God’s heart, and skillfulness of His hand (Ps. 78:72), because His ways and thoughts are much higher than ours (Isa. 55:9), and His plans are always good (Jer. 29:11)! —E.V.
My Lord knows the way through the wilderness; All I have to do is follow! —Sidney E. Cox
And the Lord said unto Satan, the Lord rebuke thee, O Satan; Even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: Is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? Zechariah 3:2
Satan is known by many names: the father of lies (John 8:44), the devil (Matt. 4:1 - "Traducer"), the tempter (Matt. 4:3), Satan (Job 1:6 - "adversary"). Revelation 12:10 calls him "the accuser of our brethren," and in this he still excels. In Zechariah's day he stood to accuse the sinful high priest. Nevertheless, his accusations were silenced by divine rebuke. The Lord countered that the accused was "a brand plucked out of the fire" -- like a stick that was snatched from the flames. Likewise, we are rescued solely by God's grace. --Keith Keyser
When I beheld my every sin nailed to the cruel tree,I felt a flood go through my soul, of grace, enough for me. --E.O. Excell

When he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord save me. Matthew 14:30
We departed and went our way; and they all brought us on our way...and we kneeled down on the shore, and prayed. Acts 21:5
Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray. Psalm 55:17a
Take time to pray about a need when it becomes known. In a sudden crisis the need for prayer is obvious, but it also holds true for other situations. When you hear a prayer request, stop what you are doing, if you can, and pray on the spot. There will be an immediate benefit, but it will also fix the need in our mind so that we will remember it in our regular times of prayer.

Pray and find the peace of heaven constant no voice is heard of strife,No care, nor fear can trouble its blessing in my life. --S.M.
With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men.
On March 19, 1813, David Livingstone -- missionary, explorer and anti-slavery crusader was born. When he died, his body was interred in Westminster Abbey, but his heart was buried under a tree in Zambia, a fit resting place for one who served God so faithfully in Africa. One entry in his journal says, "I place no value on anything I have or may possess, except in relation to the Kingdom of Christ. If anything will advance the interests of the Kingdom, it shall be given away or kept, only as by giving or keeping it shall promote the glory of Him to whom I owe my hopes in time and eternity." --Brian Powlesland
No service in itself is small and none great though earth it fill,
But that is small that seeks its own, and great that seeks God's will.

March 18“Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” (Phil. 2:4 NASB)The key word in Philippians 2 is “others.” The Lord Jesus lived for others. Paul lived for others. Timothy lived for others. Epaphroditus lived for others. We too should live for others. We are told to do this not only because it is right but also because it is for our own good. If it is sometimes costly to live for others, it is more costly not to do so.Our society is filled with people who live only for their own personal interests. Rather than keeping busy in serving others, they sit at home brooding. They think about every minor ache and pain and soon become confirmed hypochondriacs. In their loneliness they complain that no one takes an interest in them and soon they wallow in self-pity. The more time they have to think about themselves, the more depressed they become. Life becomes one great introspective horror of darkness. Soon they go off to the doctor and gulp enormous quantities of pills—pills that can never cure self-centeredness. Then they frequent the psychiatrist’s couch to somehow find relief for their boredom and weariness with life. The best therapy for people like that is a life of service for others. There are shut-ins to be visited. There are senior citizens who need a friend. There are hospitals that welcome volunteer help. There are people who could be cheered by a letter or a card. There are missionaries who welcome news from home (and perhaps they could use a little greenery to brighten up the scenery). There are souls to be saved and Christians to be taught. In short there is no excuse for anyone to be bored. There is enough to do to fill one’s life with productive activity. And in the very process of living for others, we widen our circle of friends, make our own lives more interesting, and find fulfilment and satisfaction. P.M. Derham said, “A heart that is full of compassion for others is less likely to be absorbed in its own sorrows and poisoned by its own self pity.”Others, yes, Lord, others,
Let this my motto be.
Help me to live for others
That I may live like Thee.
