How about considering this cold hearted truth. You have been chosen, now what are you going to do for the team. Meaning what are you going to do for the glory of God?

Last night during homeless ministry, a homeless man known as Michael with tears in his eyes asked that when Josh and I were in our nice comfortable churches on Sunday to remember the homeless in prayer.

God is so good, when we first saw Michael across the street his attitudes and behaviors came with a disappointment into my heart. Michael was drunk. To make my heart sink my son Josh knew his name and called out to him. Have you ever watched a drunk cross a street in downtown Nashville? It is not a pleasant sight.

At the beginning of our time with Michael, his language was filled with cussing. Seeing women walking by us dressed to look sexy with short skirts; Michael expressed thoughts that were filthy. I will admit it, inside my thoughts a temptation to give up on him and just move on.

Then a crazy thing began to happen. As continued to talk with Michael. It was like he began to sober up. The thoughts and words out of his mouth began to come from his heart. This was a change since his earlier communications seem to flow from another body opening.

It was just unbelievable. It was like a miracle was being played out. Michael had said to Joshua. “ I want to be clean of drink, I want to take a shower, put on clean clothes, go to your church with your family. And I would like to enjoy a Sunday dinner with your family.

The presence of the Holy Spirit became evident on a homeless man known as Michael. At first Michael had all the evidence of being totally drunk. Staggering when he walked, Slurred speech, Foul Language, sharing nasty thoughts about the women walking by in the notice me short skirts.

Then a crazy thing began to happen. As we continued to talk with Michael. It was like he began to sober up. The thoughts and words out of his mouth began to come from within his heart. Michael spoke about his need to have Jesus Christ in his life. This was a big change. The words being spoken were no longer being slurred. Michael spoke about his inner desire to be right with God. Suddenly my inner thoughts about Michael began to change. Did I perceive the Holy Spirit was working with Michael?

He even asked Joshua if he could have a cross necklace like the one Josh was wearing? Josh had perceived in advance this would be asked of him. Taking the cross and chain from his neck, he helped Michael secure it to his neck?

I believe a miracle was being played out. The Holy Spirit was working on a soul, a soul earlier diluted with alcohol, now was being filled with a new spirit, God’s Holy Spirit.oing what a team player should do. My position on the team includes sharing the divine unity we have by receiving the body and blood of Jesus.

A black homeless man calling himself “Straw” then came up. It was like God was cattle prodding me to do what I should. Offer Holy Communion, offer The Lord’s Supper to both of these men.

Please understand if I had not shared Communion. It would have been like the servant in the parable Jesus taught. The first two servants took the talent and returned it with an increase. One servant failed to use what the Lord invested in him. He returned without an increase. His actions failed and he was cast out.

The sharing of Communion began. My teaching moment also began, sharing the unity we have through the body and blood of Jesus. I witnessed expressions of focused devotion as holy smiles appeared on their faces. Not only was Josh and I being witnesses, God knew it and God saw it.

I wished you could have heard the singing of “Praise God” to the tune of “Amazing Grace”. Right there on a busy street in Nashville, God and every angel in heaven did hear our voices giving glory to God.

As we were leaving Michael, in reference to some more ladies walking down the street. "Would you allow your daughter to come to downtown Nashville dressed like that?" Michael seemed to have progressed a lot during our short time together.
